Researchers from Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine and Northwestern Medical Center examined data containing information 905 115 people aged between 45 and 95 at the start of the study. The researchers specifically disaggregated data on heart and blood vessel disease."We found that many people suffering from heart and blood vessel disease when older, but there are also long-lived but free of the disease," says researcher, John T. The researchers collected information on blood pressure, cholesterol levels, smoking habits and diabetes diagnoses all participants. The researchers also noted when the heart attack, stroke or death from cardiovascular disease.Both men and women are equally at increased risk for heart disease, which is as much as 60 percent for men and 56 percent in women. But the researchers found that people who fit while middle-aged are more likely to live 14 years longer than people who have multiple risk factors for heart disease.Some risk factors for heart and blood vessel disease include; aged 55 years and over, have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, a family history of heart disease, obesity and physical inactivity.
